ANZIC membership and funding

Australia and New Zealand have come together to form the Australia-New Zealand IODP Consortium (ANZIC), in which Australia pays 25% of a full IODP Membership and New Zealand 5% of a membership. Both countries provide members of the ANZIC Governing Council, and of the ANZIC Science Committee. The Australian IODP Office, based at the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University, is the international IODP contact point. New Zealand’s partnership is led by Geological and Nuclear Sciences in Wellington; their internal IODP arrangements are described at [drilling web site under development]

ANZIC Funding:

The Australian IODP partners have agreed to provide at least $20,000 or $25,000 per year to the consortium, for the present five-year term of IODP (2008-2013). Their total outlay for the five years is $3.09 million. The Australian Research Council (ARC) will provide $1.55 million per year = $7.4 million over 5 years. The total of $A10.49 million will be used to fund the annual membership fee of $US1.4 million, to support travel inside and outside Australia, and to fund the Australian IODP Office. New Zealand pays $US280,000 direct to IODP to fund its annual membership fee, and also covers its own costs.
