CORE Legacy Report

History and success of ANZIC legacy funding

Learn about the impact, history and success of our CORE Funding program in our CORE Legacy Report, a detailed evaluation of the scheme, its recipients and legacy.

This report reviews and evaluates 12 years of ANZIC legacy funding (our AILAF scheme, now CORE funding) which has provided nearly $2.5M for 125 projects examining legacy drilling materials. It highlights how this ANZIC funding has led to steady and wide-ranging contributions to research, collaboration, and career development across Australia and New Zealand.

The findings reflect strong participation across institutions, research areas, and career stages, as well as a consistent record of balanced opportunities.

By documenting the history of ANZIC legacy funding, evaluating outcomes, and examining lessons learned, the report shows the significant contribution and impact of these modest but carefully applied awards, and sets a foundation for planning the program’s future direction.

Many thanks to Kelly-Anne Lawler for her careful research, audit and compilation of the report, to Kelly Kenney for her able assistance, and co-authors Sarah Kachovich, Janelle Kennard, Ron Hackney & the ANZIC Science Committee.
