Apply to join Expedition 504S: the first SPARC expedition!
Volcanic ash record from the Ontong Java Plateau
IODP3 Expedition 504S is a SPARC (Scientific Projects using ocean drilling ARChives) expedition involving sampling and analysis of volcanic ashes and surrounding sedimentary rocks in legacy ODP and DSDP cores recovered from the Ontong Java Plateau (OJP), and held in the Gulf Coast Core Repository (GCR) in College Station, Texas, USA.
Scientists with interest and expertise relevant to the objectives of the expedition are invited to apply to be part of the Science Team. Opportunities exist for researchers in all specialties.
Express your interest
So that the IODP3 Science Office can provide support to interested scientists, there is an additional Expression Of Interest form which is optional to complete but highly encouraged. This form closes 17 December.
Apply by 16 January 2026 via the IODP3 Gateway.
Register for the Expedition Information Webinar on 3 December for details straight from the Co-Chiefs and answers to questions.
Apply to participate in Expedition GLACE-NS:
Late Cenozoic Glaciers, Landscapes, Climates, & Ecosystems of the North Sea
IODP3 have announced the call to participate in Expedition GLACE-NS, investigating the North Sea Basin late Plio-Pleistocene succession and the environmental-ecological information it contains. This will help elucidate how glaciers, landscapes, climates, and shallow marine and coastal ecosystems evolved through a period of high climate variability.
Opportunities exist for researchers in all specialities. However, while other expertise may be considered, specialists in the following fields are required: downhole logging, geophysics, inorganic geochemistry, microbiology, organic geochemistry, paleomagnetism, paleontology, palynology, physical properties, paleogenomics and provenance, sedimentology, stratigraphic correlation, and structural geology.
Submit your application to participate by 1 December via the IODP3 Gateway.
