Participating in an IODP Expedition or ICDP project is the experience of a lifetime, working as part of an integrated science party to recover, examine and unlock millennia of secrets hidden in cores.

Current opportunities

Participate in Expedition 502!

IODP3 have opened a call for participation in Expedition 502, which aims to plans to drill the outer rise area of the Japan Trench, where the sediment layer above the acoustic basement is unusually thin. There is a hypothesis that this thin sediment is caused by basalt intrusions or lava flows related to petit-spot magmatism. The aim is to determine if petit-spot magmatism is more widespread than previously thought, which could significantly influence how subduction zones work, including earthquake processes, volcanic activity, and global chemical cycles.

Scientists from ANZIC’s member institutions are eligible to apply to participate.

Information webinar

To share more information about Expedition 502, a webinar will be held on Monday 17 March at 9am GMT. Register now!

Applications are due Friday 28 March.

Participate in the KIND project!

Get in on the ground with this ICDP project – Lake Kinneret Drilling: reconstructing Pliocene-Quaternary hydroclimate and seismic history of the Levant (KIND)

ICDP are now inviting scientists to join the Workshop to progress the project plans.

The KIND project seeks to establish a high-resolution, chronostratigraphic reference record of the Pliocene-Quaternary (including hydroclimate and paleoseismic records, geomagnetic studies, and paleo-botanical, chemical and isotopic analyses).

Early career scientists are encouraged to apply for partial financial support from ICDP.

Applications close 1 March.

Never miss an opportunity!
